THE FOUR COMPONENTS OF SPEED & AGILITY

THE PROGRESSION OF MOVEMENT EFFICIENCY

  1. Posture determines center of gravity (COG)

  2. COG determines balance

  3. Balance determines movement efficiency

  4. Movement efficiency determines quality of all athletic movement

Posture

  • Postural positions and spinal alinement lead to COG location

  • Poor postural positions will negatively affect COG locations and thus compromise balance

Center of Gravity (COG)

  • “The point from which the weight of the body is considered to act”

  • COG is the determining factor in how the body addresses balance

Balance

  • Balance is the determining factor for movement efficiency

  • Energy used to correct balance disrupts energy focused on movement

Movement Efficiency

  • Movement efficiency is the ability to control athletic movement under any circumstance

  • The higher the velocity of movement the more control needed
